book recommendations

So many aha moments have been gifted to me through the power of the page. Even though I do have a Kindle app on my ipad, to me nothing beats the heart-beating-faster anticipation of holding a new book in your hands!

Two of my favourite places in the whole world are Markets and Bookshops, especially second hand bookshops. And I have been known to swoon at the sight of a second hand bookstall in a market…

I also have a closely related stationery addiction. I am powerless over the seductive powers of a beautiful new journal or notebook…crisp, clean pages just waiting for my pen. But I take solace in the knowledge that I am not alone in this predicament!

So, I’d like to share some of my favourite things… unashamedly biased towards books!

you can heal yourlife

This book was the start of my journey into self-development - a classic.

thought it was me

It felt as though Brene had direct access to my life... such identification. She is an inspiration for my work on self-worth for both myself, and the women I support.

self compassion

An essential life skill, in my personal experience we can be ridiculously hard on ourselves, self-compassion allows us the grace to be imperfect.

no matter what

One of the most powerful speakers I have ever had the privilege to see, Lisa's story of vision, persistence and resilience picked me up, dusted me off, and sent me in the direction of my purpose.

playing big

Such as wise, wise woman and champion of who we can be if we allow ourselves to take up our space. I interviewed Tara for my Wholehearted Success Summit in 2012 and she opened my heart and mind further to just what we are capable of when we decide to own our power.

fire starter

One of the catalysts to taking me out of the 'shoulds and musts' and the 'but I've always done it this way, changing direction now is risky, listening to my heart? Woah! That's a whole new ballgame.' So glad I took the advice.

big leap

Ever heard of the Upper Limit Problem? That's when we see the prize that we know we want and then almost immediately self-sabotage ourselves. Not any more thanks to the spotlight this classic book shines on the why and how to move past this experience.

Oh the MONEY issue - how do we expand and own our value? Own the impact of what we create in the world and gracefully stand in our worth and charge accordingly? The mindset that accompanies that stance is found in these pages. Empowering!

too late

Laugh out loud moments, deep, deep, AHA moments in a book packed with honesty and a very loud wake up call. The title says it all. Love, love, love this one.

untethered soul

I read this one on a plane trip, and often had to put it down and just sit, allowing myself to absorb the depth of what i was learning. Such original concepts that have inspired many a journaling moment.

The perfect blend of inspiration and action, that's how I would describe this brilliant book that encourages small acts of courage to enact every day.

high bottom

I discovered Tammy by clicking a link somewhere online and I'm so glad the universe led me to her! The candid, honest, vulnerable and open hearted story of her journey into sobriety brought back so many memories of my own experiences and reconnected me to gratitude for my past. Inspiring.

living with joy

I didn't realise it when this book jumped off the shelf into my hands while visiting the beautiful Crystal Castles in the Byron Bay hinterland, but it was waiting to take me deeper into my newly found interest.

wired for life

Totally, utterly fascinating, and then hugely exciting when you realise you have the power to change your thinking, and change your life as a result! A must read, these ladies demystify the mysterious subject of neuroscience and mix it beautifully with mindfulness. Susan was another lady I interviewed for the 2012 Wholehearted Success Summit.

the right questions

To paraphrase Debbie, I believe when we bring conscious attention to our choices, we can't help but learn from the patterns of our past and create new pathways into our future. These questions will enhance our journey.

divine intuition

A wonderful read that made me realise I believe Intuition is underrated as a business tool. The further along this purposeful path I travel, the more I recognise that heeding those gut feelings are essential - they seldom lead us astray.

Alchemic Oils

Michelle Marie McGrath is the creator of Sacred Self’s self-love range of 33 alchemical oils.

These oils are infused with affirmations and are delectable and powerful.

The ones I love the most and have on my desk and on my pulse points every day, depending on what I need, are Clarity, Courage, Joy, Abundance, Trust and Freedom.

Brené Brown again!

How do we learn to embrace our vulnerabilities and imperfections so that we can engage in our lives from a place of authenticity and worthiness?

How do we cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection that we need to recognize that we are enough – that we are worthy of love, belonging, and joy?

She is my inspiration!

I am a big believer in making peace with your Inner Critic and one guise that she often turns up in is The Impostor.

Tanya Geisler nails her in a brilliant presentation at TEDxIsfeldWomen.

This is a must see!

Dr. Kristin Neff is considered to be one of the world’s foremost researchers and authorities on self-compassion. She says “Having self-compassion for oneself is really no different than having compassion for others.” She tackles the questions:

Why do so many of us struggle with offering ourselves self-compassion? Why not give ourselves the compassion we ourselves surely deserve if we are struggling through life?

Another source of inspiration for me, Self compassion is a core component of my Self Worth Trilogy.
